Decision Points and Project Plan
1. Narrative Focus:
We’ve reached a critical juncture where we must decide whether to concentrate on the environmental aspects of the story or dive deeper into the fantasy elements. After much discussion, we’ve decided to weave the two themes together throughout the narrative, ensuring that the environmental message complements the mythical storyline. The conclusion of our tale will now explicitly connect the fantasy elements with the real-world implications for the villagers, showing how their journey to the mythical Atlantis parallels their quest for survival in a changing climate.
2. VR and MR Integration:
Our narrative will split between virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) to optimize engagement and storytelling depth:
- VR Experience: Players will immerse themselves in the main storyline in VR, exploring the snowy mountains and interacting with the mythical creatures. This part of the experience is designed to be deeply interactive and emotionally engaging, allowing players to make choices that influence the narrative outcome.
- MR for Character Introductions: Before entering the VR experience, players will use MR to meet the characters and learn about their backgrounds and motivations. This setup will help ground the story, providing context before the more immersive VR journey begins.
3. Structural Adjustments:
To streamline our narrative and enhance clarity, we initially considered deleting the opening paragraph about the villagers’ transition to Atlantis. However, after further deliberation, we’ve decided to move this segment to the end of the story. This change will serve as a powerful conclusion, where a flash of white light transitions the players from the mythical back to the real world, illustrating how the villagers find peace and a new home in Atlantis, symbolizing hope and new beginnings.
Technical and Creative Challenges
Integrating VR and MR: One of the biggest technical challenges we face is ensuring a seamless transition between VR and MR environments. This involves not only technical synchronization but also maintaining narrative coherence so that each platform complements the other in storytelling.
Non-linear Narrative in VR: Developing a non-linear narrative within VR presents unique challenges, particularly in ensuring that player choices are meaningful and impact the story. We are developing branches that feel organic to the fairytale while ensuring that environmental themes are clearly communicated.
Artistic Representation: Visually representing a traditional Chinese fairytale in a virtual environment involves careful consideration of cultural elements and their integration into the virtual world. Our design team is working closely with cultural consultants to ensure authenticity and respect in our depictions.
Conclusion
By the beginning of March, our goal is to have a clearly defined narrative and technological framework that seamlessly integrates VR and MR, providing an engaging and meaningful experience. This project not only aims to entertain but also to enlighten players about environmental issues through the lens of myth and reality. We are excited about the possibilities this hybrid approach offers and are committed to delivering a compelling experience that resonates with audiences on multiple levels.
