In the creation of Moonbow, I have been working hard to enhance the player’s emotional connection to the story through the deepening of the characters and the plot. In particular, I received a lot of valuable user feedback on the design of the wedding scene, which has driven the further development of the characters and the richness of the plot. This blog will share these design changes and the thinking behind them.

From the boyfriend in the photo to the presence of the wedding scene
In the early versions of the wedding scene, the boyfriend of the green bean cake groom only appeared in the story in the form of a photo, symbolizing the groom’s hidden true feelings. However, user feedback pointed out that the photo alone was too subtle and did not fully express the boyfriend’s support for the groom and the importance of their relationship. Therefore, they suggested that I also include the green bean cake groom boyfriend in the wedding scene, standing among the guests.

This change made the groom boyfriend’s presence more concrete and powerful. When the guests began to criticize the player’s character, the groom’s boyfriend would silently hold up their photo together, as if silently declaring support for the true identity of his lover. When the guests gradually put down their accusations and showed acceptance or approval, the groom’s boyfriend would also put down the photo accordingly. This delicate emotional expression conveyed strong emotions through simple actions, making this wedding scene full of drama and contradictions.

The addition of Green Bean Cake’s parents: increasing the realism of the wedding
In addition, users also suggested that I add the role of Green Bean Cake’s groom’s parents to the wedding. This setting not only enhances the realism of the wedding scene, but also makes the role story of Green Bean Cake’s groom fuller and more three-dimensional. The existence of parents represents tradition and expectations. Their pressure on the groom is not only a microcosm of the overall social concept, but also an important driving force for the groom to wander between pursuing himself and catering to the family.

By adding the role of parents, the wedding scene is closer to the situation of many queer groups in real life-facing the expectations of family members and social norms, personal true emotions are often suppressed and hidden. This opposition between parents and boyfriends also makes the story of Green Bean Cake’s groom full of complex tension, reflecting multiple emotional conflicts in this wedding scene.

In-depth role and rich plot
These changes not only make the wedding scene more layered, but also make the characters more distinct and rich in background. The groom’s boyfriend is no longer just an image in the photo, but a real person who expresses his support for his partner in his own way. This silent but firm support is particularly precious amid the accusations of the guests. At the same time, the appearance of Green Bean Cake’s parents makes the atmosphere of the wedding solemn and stressful, making the groom’s inner struggle more prominent.

In these changes, I gradually realized that the depth and diversity of the characters are the soul of the narrative. By introducing more characters, especially those who can show different positions at critical moments, the realism and emotional impact of the whole story can be greatly enhanced.

Behind these changes, there are positive responses to user feedback. The suggestions provided by users made me realize that subtle changes can often bring significant depth and emotional tension to the plot. When making VR projects, the player experience is the key, and rich and in-depth character relationships can allow players to better immerse themselves and feel the emotional resonance of the characters.

Through continuous iteration, I hope to present a wedding scene in Moonbow that is full of realistic pressure, love and struggle. In this scene, each character has his or her own story and stance, and players can personally experience the complexity and diversity of these emotions through their actions. This is a comprehensive journey of deepening from character to plot, and it is also a process of continuous learning and growth for me in the creation.
